Founded by Bishop Rick Hawkins in 1993, Place for Life is a church based in San Antonio, Texas. The church has grown over the past 25 years, blossoming into a ministry that has been able to serve the community faithfully, as well as those living abroad. The bishop oversees both the church and the Rick Hawkins Foundation.
Through the ministry, the church has been able to share God's presence with various groups and communities.
Place for Life continues to serve people from all walks of life in the following areas:
1) The church was responsible for establishing a faith-based school in Texas. The charter school is called The School of Excellence in Education and was the first of its kind in the state. The school has grown and now spans several campuses spread across San Antonio.
2) The church regularly undertakes outreach missions to feed the homeless.
3) Place for Life commissioned and built an HIV/Aids counseling center in South Africa. Based in Mamalode, the counseling center was also a first of its kind in the region.
4) The church has joined hands with Habitat for Humanity, building homes for families.
5) Place for Life also sent a missionary to Togo, West Africa, who went on to build an outpost of the church there. Today, believers from Togo are part of the Place for Life family.
6) Children in need have received school supplies from the church.
It is fair to say that over the past 25 years, the church has been true to its mission of experiencing God together with others. Place for Life has faithfully extended its ministry in service of those in physical and spiritual need.
